Vaccinations El Campo, TX

Vaccinations

Since horses have different vaccination needs, depending on where they live, if they travel, and what they do, we recommend discussing your horse’s vaccination schedule with us. Together we can start a schedule that will work for you and your new horse.

Horses typically don’t get vaccinations until they are several months old, depending on their needs. Some vaccinations are started at four months old and need to be boostered three to four weeks later. Some vaccinations are not given until a horse is five to six months old. Most of these also need to be boostered three to four weeks later.

Equine Farrier Consultations El Campo, TX

Farrier Consultation

Here at El Campo Animal Hospital, we understand horses’ feet are just as important as the rest of their body, if not more important. When horses are lame or don’t have the right shoes, they will not perform at their best. That is why we are determined to work closely with your farrier (or take care of their hooves ourselves) to make sure they are well taken care of!

When your horses have a medical condition that requires special shoeing or splints, it is very important for your farrier to work closely with your veterinarian. Together, they should discuss the medical condition, notes, and x-rays to come up with a plan for your horses.

Any type of hoof or limb injury may require your veterinarian to work closely with your farrier. These may include any type of limb deviation problem with young foals, fractures, and lameness including laminitis. All of these cases will require follow-up with the farrier, veterinarian, or both.

Highly active performance horses may also benefit from a consult between a veterinarian and farrier. Together, we may be able to improve your horse’s performance by changing their shoes!

Here at El Campo Animal Hospital, we would be delighted to work closely with your farrier (or do the work ourselves) so that your horses can be as healthy as possible. Remember, if your horse’s feet are bothering them, you won’t have happy horses!
